Free E-Books

AS OF APRIL 4, 2009 THIS OFFER IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE!! SORRY!!!!
Why I'm giving away my stories ...
I am a self-published author of ten books. Believe it or not, but I don't really care if I ever make money. However, I honestly do care about whether others will get the opportunity to read my stories. I believe that once you read my books, you'll become a fan and will tell others about me. Because of that, I'm more than happy to send you a free e-book if you're interested.

What I hope to get out of this ...
I desperately want feedback and comments on my work. One of the things I struggle with is I seem to not fit in any specific genre. Some people say it's inspirational fiction. Some people say it's women's fiction. Some people say it's romance. What would you call it? I'd love to hear all of your thoughts and your opinions.

What you need to do to get a free e-book ...
Why don't you check out my website at http://www.faithinspiredbooks.com/. If one of my books appeals to you, I will happily send you an e-copy to read for free. My email is susanmcgeown@faithinspiredbooks.com. I look forward to hearing from you!

My Theme
Philippians 1:20-21
I earnestly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed but will have sufficient courage so that now, as always, Christ will be exalted in my life. For me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.

Talk to my daughter Olivia and she’ll mention my lousy maternal instincts, blatant favoritism towards her sister, one-sided loyalties, and convenient memories regarding my personal disasters.

My friend Callie will tell you I have a wonderful relationship with my daughter Erin and a spectacular relationship with my grandson. She’s quick to point out that I’m “strong, capable, and resilient.”

Without God, I am a shy, introverted, insecure woman who feels that she's never pretty enough, smart enough, clever enough, or strong enough to be much good to anyone. With God, I have learned to battle my personal demons. I still quake with fear before I do something public like speak before the church, conduct a training session for my peers, or present my written works to curious strangers. But I do it because I know, without a shadow of a doubt, that once I get up there magic happens with my words and thoughts and I become this coherent, intelligent woman. I am a woman after God's own heart. I am a woman of faith. I wanted to write a story about the woman I may have been had God not claimed me as early as He did. JOINING THE CLUB is that book. And even though my fictional persona Elaine has had a pretty rough go of it, she's still somehow managed to become a woman after God's own heart in the end. Because life is often just like that.

A Well Behaved Woman's Life

What do you do when you discover that your entire adult life has been a lie? What do you do when you realize everything you believed in and trusted in was nothing but an illusion painted with deceit and framed in your own stupidity?

At fifty-two, the only fact that she is certain of is that her life is just about over. Standing, looking at herself in the mirror, the ravages of time and The Truth have turned her into a bitter, lonely, hateful, spiteful old woman. The peaceful, proper, well-behaved existence that has defined her entire life has gotten her absolutely nothing except an ocean of tears and a lifetime filled with regrets.

A Well Behaved Woman’s Life is a story that reminds us that even in our darkest times, God has anticipated our needs, reassuring us that anything is possible and it is never too late – even for love, dreams, laughter and happiness.

Each of my books start in my head with a vivid image that I just can't ignore. For this book - my first foray into contemporary story writing - the initial image I had was of the rather bizarre "shower scene" in the first chapter. My main character, Bee, is so bleak at the start of this story that she describes her life as "numbing grayness." I wanted to create a character that had, on first glance, nothing much to live for. Unquestionably, Bee's had a raw deal in life. When she says, with great bitterness and sarcasm, "all my life I've been so well behaved and look what it's gotten me" I wanted the reader to empathize with her. Yet, I firmly believe that there is always hope. My good friend Kate said it best when she told me, "At the start of the story her life's a disaster and at the end of the story I wanted to be just like her!"

The Butler Did It

No one is ever completely what he or she appears …

Adam LeGrande, computer genius and billionaire, is drifting through the drudgery of his life. The highlights of his day revolve around verbal sparing matches with his annoying and shifty butler and refining his skill at “strategic alienation”. But hey, what’s a cynical man to do?

The Butler Did It illustrates the wonderful truth that through God’s love and grace we can become new people – no matter what we hide deep down inside.

Have you ever said something like, "If only I was rich …" or "If only I was successful …" implying that what you have can't make you happy, but rather it's what you want. Life tends to teach you that happiness is more an internal rather than an external goal. At some point along this walk, we have to stop looking with longing towards what we don't have and appreciate what we've got. I explore this whole concept in The Butler Did It, giving a majority of my characters money and power and yet none of them are happy: one is angry, one is regretful, and one is lonely. Factoring in a vibrant faith begins a transformation that spreads … with twists, turns, and humor. Who ever thought that being sneaky, shifty, and annoying are fruits of the spirit?

Rules For Survival & Recipe For Disaster

Rules for Survival came first out of these two. I always have 'pet' names I call my books before the title finally 'speaks' to me and I initially called this one 'Choices.' I wanted to delve into the concept of just how powerful and life altering even the smallest of choices can be in steering the entire direction of our lives. Paul, the hero of Rules is the unquestionable bad guy in Recipe. While he will eventually find love and joy in his future, there is only hatred and sorrow in his past - all because of the choices he has made. When I got Paul to the point where he must go back and face the woman from his past that he wronged so badly, I realized that I had no idea what had become of her! I had to stop writing Rules and then write Karly's story in Recipe for Disaster to find out. As readers will see in the acknowledgement page of Recipe, Karly's story touches on many true situations from my own life.

Rules For Survival Don’t talk to Claire Jenkins about how tough things can be. She’s had a front row seat experiencing the cruelties of life, literally from the moment of her birth. Just leave her alone, stay out of her way, and, don’t offer her any sympathy or charity. She may be living on the edge, but she can take care of herself thank you very much.
