Noteworthy Book: LEAPS OF FAITH

This month, CFRB presents Leaps of Faith,

an anthology edited by Karina and Robert Fabian.

There are some things you need to know about me before you read this book review.

  • I am a writer of women’s fiction and nonfiction.

  • I rarely read science fiction or fantasy.

  • I am very, very picky about what I read.

  • I am impatient with stories with one-dimensional characters, simplistic plots, and narrow-minded views of the world.

  • I’m a Christian - a quality that defines literally everything about me.

As a member of Christian Fiction Review Board (http://cfrblog.blogspot.com/) I was encouraged to read Karina and Robert Fabian’s anthology of science fiction. Admittedly, it’s not something I would normally pick up. Yet, I was intrigued when it was also described as “Christian science fiction.” Perhaps you are like I used to be and feel inclined to ask:

Does 'Christian Science Fiction' truly exist?

Let me assure you, it does!

Leaps of Faith contains fourteen stories that delve into a fascinating variety of intriguing scientific concepts – all with a solid dose of faith included. I enjoyed reading about time travel (back to Christ’s time!) and space exploration, break-through scientific discoveries and alien life forms.

The wonderful question,“What if …” resounds strongly in each and every one of these stories jump-starting the reader’s own thoughts and opinions while at the same time introducing us to new and original ideas. None of these stories interferes with our faith - quite the opposite in fact. Each of these stories challenges the reader to step out of the narrow, comfortable box we automatically tend to put God and instead, open up our head and our hearts to the limitless expanse of time and space.

I would encourage you to read Leaps of Faith whether you are a science fiction aficionado or not. Sometimes, it is quite delightful to venture out into areas that are new and original while at the same time enriching our faith. Doesn't that sound just about perfect?

A 2002 EPPIE finalist for Best Electronic Anthology, Leaps of Faith promises the best in Christian sci-fi.

Thanks, Susan! I"m so glad you enjoyed Leaps of Faith. When it was out in e-book, it was a finalist for the EPPIE for best anthology, and I think it's because the writers did such a good job of telling great stories.

Blessings,

Karina & Robert Fabian

Very nice Susan. Your post gives a lot of good information about Leaps of Faith.

It is a real compliment especially as you aren't a sci-fi reader.
